Q&A with local Photographer,
As part of a new series where we look into the creative characters that have been a part of our Dublin City Brewing Co. journey so far, our first focus is on local still life photographer Brendan Ryan.
Brendan has recently been behind the lens capturing the latest product imagery of our core range of beers - however, our connection with him goes back to sharing offices and moving into his studio!
We caught up with Brendan over a virtual beer, and here’s what he had to say:
Could you tell us a little more about yourself?
I moved to Dublin after school to go to college to study photography. To be honest, it was a fairly arty affair that left me fairly unprepared for life as a commercial photographer. I moved to New York shortly after graduating and cut my teeth assisting in the big league. Once I returned to Ireland, I was now much more prepared and driven set out on a career as a still life photographer.
It took another year or so, before I took the leap and rented my own studio, that was almost seven years ago now. I'm now on my third studio and each one a little bigger than the last.
What are some of your favourite things about Dublin?
My previous studios were among the creative community at The Chocolate Factory, it was an amazing place with a spectrum of creatives all under one roof. Dublin’s a great place, I was constantly at gigs!
And that’s where you first came across the Dublin City Brewing Co. team?
Yes, through the chocolate factory, the brewery is next door. The Dublin City Brewing Co. team are always on hand with a keg for any of the events in the building! They’ve now actually taken over my old photo studio as an office!
Any last thoughts?
I’m looking forward to seeing what the next phase of Dublin City Brewing Co.’s journey will look like. It’s great to see rejuvenation in the city with new business bringing new energy to the city. Dublin city is in danger of becoming a city of hotels so it’s really important what DCBCo. are doing.
